{This message is now out of date as the planets have moved somewhat since February, please see post #10 below to see April\'s report}

This month {February} you can see these planets with the naked eye...

Jupiter - Eastern sky before sunrise (this one is bright but you have to get up real early to see it)

Venus - As above but closer to the horizon (VERY BRIGHT!)

Mars - Kind of overhead in the evenings anytime from 6 onwards (looks orange like, but dimmer than it was a few months ago)

Saturn - Eastern sky in the evenings (has a slight yellow tinge to it, about the same brightness as the brighter stars)

If you want to know exactly where to look give me a PM and I\'ll send u a chart.
ps anyone else here with a telescope?

Best time is anytime between 2:30am and 6am

at 2:30 it\'s rising in the East, by 6am it\'s more towards the South

If you don\'t now where the compass directions are at your location, Ths Sun rises in the East and sets in the West so you can roughly figure it out after seeing a sunset or sunrise.

If you dont wanna get up that early, then best to wait till May when it will be rising in the late evenings instead.

Yeh so just Mars, and Saturn for you at the moment ;-) Nice easy evenings times.

Problem with Mars and Saturn at the moment is they don\'t look too much different from normal stars (unless you have a scope!)

An update (April 2006). Jupiter is now beginning to rise at more earthly hours. At the start of April it is right on the Eastern horizon at around 11pm. By the end of April it will be rising from the horizon at about 10:20pm. Some telescopic photo\'s will be on my Planets Gallery (http://www.mattastro.com/planets.html) as soon as I get round to taking some.
